About Our Program

Emme - The heart of all we do.

Middle Fork Entlebucher's breeding plans are all about keeping the wonderful qualities of the Entlebucher Mountain Dog alive. We do this by carefully planning, thoroughly testing the health of our dogs, and making sure each puppy finds the perfect home. Emme is our starting point—she embodies the kind of dog, personality, and energy that we truly love in the breed.

Emme has always been a part of our family, growing up with structure, socialization, and enriching experiences from the start. We’re hoping to give her puppies the same nurturing environment, so they can flourish as loving companions, potential athletes, and energetic partners.

The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is one of the rarest Swiss breeds in the United States, with only a small population and limited genetic diversity. Because of this, responsible breeding is essential to protect the breed’s health, temperament, and working heritage. Through thoughtful efforts we want to produce well-bred puppies and contribute to ensuring that this lovable, loyal and versatile breed remains viable in America for future generations. That is also why we encourage some of Emme's puppies, males and females alike, to go to homes willing to raise them as breeding dogs.

We prioritize long-term breed stewardship by pairing excellent health clearances with stable, confident temperaments and owner support throughout each puppy's life.

Entlebucher Mountain Dogs

The smallest — and some say the most agile — of the four Swiss Mountain Dog breeds.

Athletic & Energetic

Originally bred as cattle herders in the Swiss Alps, Entlebuchers are muscular, nimble, and built for endurance. They thrive with active families who enjoy hiking, running, and outdoor play.

Loyal & Devoted

Entlebuchers form deep bonds with their families. They are confident, alert watchdogs yet affectionate and playful at home — always happiest when they're part of the action.

Intelligent & Trainable

Quick learners with a strong work ethic, Entlebuchers excel in obedience, agility, and herding trials. Positive-reinforcement training channels their intelligence into impressive results.

The Tricolor Coat

Their striking black coat with symmetric tan and white markings is a hallmark of the breed. The short, dense double coat is low-maintenance and built for all-weather adventures. Many people find Entlebuchers trigger dog allergies less than other breeds, likely due to their short coat and low shedding, but individual reactions can vary.

Life with Emme
